A future Fitbit device could help you reduce stress

We all know that stress is something that damages our health. This is something that affects a lot of people, and it only gets worse over time. You have to admit that the last two years haven’t really helped in that regard. However, according to Phone Arena, Fitbit is looking to create a fitness tracker that will actually help you reduce your stress.

A new patent has just surfaced from the Google-owned OEM Fitbit fitness tracker. The company filed this application in 2020, but it only finally surfaced today. Although no image comes with the patent, we know what the watch will do.

How will this Fitbit tracker reduce stress?

If you’re hoping for a device that will magically reduce your stress at the press of a button, you might want to wait a little longer. This Fitbit tracker will use its built-in sensors to actually detect if you’re experiencing high stress. When it detects it, it notifies you. Not only that, but it will give you some suggestions to help you reduce your stress.

Sometimes it’s easy to lose sight of yourself and get stressed out. As far as we know, a reminder once in a while could help us keep track of what stresses us and when we are stressed.

How will the watch detect stress?

Stress causes several biological functions at the same time. So while the tracker can’t directly detect when you’re stressed, it uses its sensors to analyze different bodily functions going on at the same time that could suggest stress.

To begin with, it will use the Electrodermal Activity Sensor (EDA). It measures the conductivity of your skin and detects if you sweat. It will take this data and combine it with your heart rate to see if you are stressed.

If you practice, you might see the problem with this method. You sweat and get your heart rate up while you work out, so the company will have to try hard not to tell people they’re stressed out while they work out. As this is just a patent, we don’t know if we will see this watch in the future.
