The Indian government released its official COVID-19 tracking mobile app just days ago. Three days after its launch, the app became the first free app on the Google Play Store as well as the Apple App Store in India. It also managed to reach 5 million installs on Google Play Store.

The AarogyaSetu app was introduced on Android and iOS, primarily aimed at tracking community transmission and tracking the contact and travel history of people quarantined, infected or suspected of being susceptible to the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus. . The app uses both location data and Bluetooth proximity tracking on users’ phones, in order to keep track of people who may have been carrying or affected by the COVID-19 disease.

Arnab Kumar, Frontier Technologies program director at NITI Aayog, recently tweeted saying that the app had actually managed to gain nearly 8 million installs. Now that Apple’s App Store doesn’t reveal how many times the app has been installed, we can’t be too sure.
