KOCHI: Nowadays, there are many ways to build an affordable house. But, how much research is done in terms of home design, building materials and ergonomic parameters? BuildNext, a Kochi-based tech startup, sees the house as a product that needs to be built better.

Founded in 2015 by Gopikrishnan V and Finaz Naha, the duo wanted to change the way homes were built and decided not to compromise on cost and quality. About six years in the field, the startup has already delivered more than 75 houses in Kerala and Hyderabad. Currently, the startup is working on some 135 projects in Kerala, Hyderabad and Coimbatore.

“The housing sector is currently fragmented and unorganized. Also, there are a lot of players, which complicates the process. No one has created a structure for these processes where consistency can be achieved when building a house unlike mature markets like the US and Japan,” says Gopikrishnan.

“So we thought the time was right to create digital structures that could capture and customize home designs without losing quality. We have created systems to deliver very consistent product quality,” he adds.

A mobile app has been developed to help track information on job status, quality process and materials used.

Virtual reality is one of the tools used to create better homes. “Before building a house, these experience centers allow you to ‘test your house’. Our app helps you build houses with particular parameters and explore the design. Customers get the most efficiently built home at any cost,” shares Gopikrishnan.

Usually, people have to figure out how much space should be allowed for a shoe rack or cabinet after the house is built. “Often customers have to make adjustments to fit their business. This is because the houses are not designed according to the preferences of the customers. However, we design houses taking into account the requirements of the client. We connect with workers and give them training,” the duo shared.

The other main members of the team are Nirmal George, Dileep PG and Gautam Premachandran. The team will soon expand its presence in Bangalore. He is also working on community house projects in Kochi, Thiruvananthapuram and Kozhikode.
