Panaji: The directorate of education has asked all schools to encourage their teaching and non-teaching staff to download the “Fit India” app, which was launched as part of the central government’s Fit India movement. The calendar says schools should even ask parents to download the app and motivate students and staff to exercise for at least half an hour a day, starting in April.
“The app comes with a host of features such as personalized diet plans, step counter, calorie monitor and sleep tracker. A detailed guide on how to perform the fitness tests is also available on the app. The app is available on both Android and iOS,” Director of Education Bhushan Savaikar said in the circular.
The fitness assessment performed by the app is based on age-appropriate fitness protocol targets launched by the Prime Minister as part of the Fit India movement.
“Heads of all non-government aided, government-subsidized primary, secondary and tertiary schools are requested to encourage teaching and non-teaching staff to download and benefit from the fitness app,” the circular reads. .
Schools have also been asked to follow the monthly fitness activities recommended under the Fit India movement in a calendar released by the Union Ministry of Education. The calendar listed activities through February 2023.
In May and June of this year, the focus will be on mental health and yoga.
In July, physical education teachers will assess the physical condition of students through the practice of indigenous sports. A fitness race will be held the following month with a plog race taking place in October.
Schools have been asked to carry out teacher and parent fitness assessments in November-December 2022. The year-long celebrations of the Fit India movement will end early next year with various competitions organized around the fitness assessment.
