Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant say it Assembly that the government will introduce an application Taxi service in the coastal state.
Reply to a question from a member Dalila Lobohe said an app-based taxi service would be set up, with confidence.
“App based taxi service is just the solution. I am telling you this for the sake of taxi owners in Goa because in the long run without app based service we will not survive. Don’t you do not oppose app-based taxi services. … we are ready to offer this service. We will take all stakeholders into confidence,” Sawant said.
Sawant said taxi owners don’t use meters. “They keep the meters closed, so even tracking can’t happen. We had subsidized the meters considering they would use it, but they’re not using it,” he said.
“Government has given them (taxi owners) Rs 11,000 as a full subsidy for the meter but they are not using it. They are even cheating tourists, we have to be serious about this. If we need l “tourism industry in the long term, then we have to think about this area. I have sympathy for taxi owners, and if anyone is interested in getting into this business, we must encourage them,” said he declared.
While discussing the issue of taxi meters, opposition MPs called on the government to impose a fine on those who do not use the meters.
