Go where you go without an internet connection

Downloading offline maps lets you use essential Google Maps features while disconnected from the web. It’s a great idea if you’re traveling to a remote area with spotty signal or if you’re traveling to a foreign country where you might not have a data plan.

Not all features are available when using Maps offline. You won’t be able to access transit, bike, or walking directions, and you won’t be able to get real-time traffic data. However, you will be able to get directions and routes, use navigation, and search for places.

Not only can you manually download maps of specific areas, but Google Maps will also try to update those maps automatically. There are a lot of areas in my hometown where the connection is spotty at best, so I like to have an offline map downloaded at all times to make sure I’m never lost.
