It’s time to dust off your trusty sneakers and slip on your lycra leggings – the 2021 London Marathon takes place tomorrow, October 3rd.

As the fitness fans and charitable fundraisers among us will trek 26.2 miles through central London, many more will simply watch from the safe haven of the sidelines.

Or maybe follow the race through the news on TV, Instagram, Facebook or Twitter.

But if you have a loved one who runs the marathon, is there another way to keep tabs on their progress?

It does indeed exist, and it’s called: The official Virgin Money London Marathon app.

It will allow you to see where the individual runners are at all times, as they make the hour-long journey to the finish line.

Here’s what you need to know.

Yes, the official Virgin Money London Marathon app is live tracking.

The participant must download the application on their device, via Apple App Store and Google Play.

They will need to enter their reservation reference number, as well as an e-mail address and date of birth.

Finally, the last step is to enable GPS tracking on the device. This must be done well in advance of the race, as the cut-off time for GPS operation is 15 minutes before the start time.

However, you can’t just track them – the attendee will need to approve your email address in the app.

To make sure you can keep track of their route that day, give them up to two email addresses by the end of the day (Saturday, October 2).

Enter them into the app and you should be good to go.

It’s also important to note that while this is a great feature, it will only work when you have a GPS signal.

The map should update every two minutes when the signal is strong, but it may not update when the time is right.

To learn more about the app, you will need to download the London Marathon Event Guide via the official website.
